Artist Statement
I paint memories rather than observations.
My paintings explore the places where memory, landscape, light, and structure intersect. Rather than describing a particular location, I create spaces that feel remembered…where fragments of architecture, botanical forms, shifting light, and atmospheric passages emerge and dissolve through layers of paint.
Working intuitively with acrylic and mixed media, I build luminous surfaces through transparent layers, editing, and revision. Earlier marks often remain visible, allowing the history of the painting to become part of its final form. I'm interested in the tension between recognition and abstraction, where familiar forms hover just beyond definition and invite multiple interpretations.
Light, color, and composition guide my process, but ambiguity is equally important. I want the paintings to remain open, encouraging viewers to bring their own memories and experiences to what they see. Rather than depicting a specific place, each painting becomes an emotional landscape—one that lingers like a half-remembered dream or the feeling of returning somewhere familiar.
Whether working on a large canvas or a small study, my goal is to create paintings that reward repeated viewing. Through layered surfaces, subtle shifts in color, and traces of the painting's own history, I hope each work continues to reveal itself over time.
